Professional development program on International financial reporting standards (IFRS) for gas & oil companies, 22 – 29 May 2017

This six day course is designed for officials responsible in accounting, auditing and financial managers, contributing to the decision making process  for the gas, oil and mining companies. International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) provide the basis for company reporting in an increasing number of countries around the world. The pace of standard-setting from the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) has been intense in recent years, with a constant flow of changes for companies to keep up with. One of the biggest challenges of any reporting standard is how best to interpret and implement it in the context of a specific company or industry.

It is not just the IFRSs that are constantly evolving, but also the operational issues faced by energy and utilities companies. The training would focus on some of the main developments in this context with a selection of reporting topics that are of most practical relevance to energy and utilities companies’ activities. The focus of the training will be in three parts firstly on the accounting issues, followed by financial instruments and other issues.  The theoretical base for this training will be from the IFRS standards that are listed in the appendix of the course contents. Each of the aspect that will be dealt in the training will be in tune within the IFRS standard listed. Each aspect that will be dealt in the training will be supported by discussion complemented with comprehensive case studies and practical examples.
