Professional Development Training Program on “Hydrological Data Analysis and Hydropower Project Cost Estimation”, 07-19 Sep 2015

This is a 2-week long customized professional development training program, to enhance participant’s knowledge and understanding of the multi-dimensional strategies leading to the sustainable, socially, economically and environmentally feasible Hydropower project development with details planning, state of art engineering and policy interventions. The participants of this program are expected to be the Hydropower generations’ engineers and experts from Bhutan.

The main focus of this professional development training program will be more towards practical and experiential learning combining sharing experiences and lessons learnt. The participants will be able to learn and extend their knowledge on mathematical and engineering tools to sustainable Hydropower generation. This program will provide participants with appropriate technical knowledge, understanding and awareness on sustainable development strategies incorporating the social and environment concerns of hydropower development. This program will also enable the participants to widen their understanding with the main components required for the development of a hydropower scheme.

Program Outline:

The overall content of this professional development training program will have 2 modules combining technical input sessions, group discussions, exercises, assignments, and an integration and presentation session at the end of Program.

The program contents are designed to have focused interventions on hydrological data analysis and hydropower project cost estimation. The delivered technical session under hydrological data analysis part will provide participants with in-depth knowledge and understanding on the estimation of water availability and reliability to provide continuity of a project planned and developed. On the other hand, the learning outcomes from hydropower project cost estimation will give ideas to the trainees about soundness of a newly planned project.

There will also be opportunities to visit Ministry of Energy, Electricity generation Authority, and one major hydropower project/dam in Thailand to get practical knowledge about hydropower development, its socioeconomic and environmental aspects, and different technologies applied.
