Irrigation System Management

Participants: Irrigation engineers, civil engineers and agriculturalists.

Course Brief: This course enables participants to evaluate existing field conditions of irrigation systems with the view to improve its operation and management efficiency, particularly under multiple-cropping system. The course includes knowledge on organizational, socio-economic and farmer participation aspects of irrigation management. The course covers contents on integrated irrigation system management, crop response to irrigation water, soil and land capability classification, design of on-farm water distribution system, water allocation scheduling and monitoring program, system capability evaluation and maintenance of irrigation schemes. Technical field visits are organized to various irrigation projects in Thailand to observe and exchange experiences on management of irrigation water, evaluation of system capacity, operation and maintenance of headworks and canals, on-farm water delivery and management and farmers’ participation in irrigation water management. Field practicum at the actual project site is organized to enhance skills of participants on technical sessions.
